‘Purple Heather’ is a Scottish folksong written by William McPeake in 1957 and is also known as ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ and ‘Will You Go Lassie, Go.’
It is believed that the song was based on a poem entitled ‘The Braes of Balquhidder’ written by Robert Tannahill (1774- 1810) Asides from Stewart, the song has been covered by a number of artists.
